Introduction to Your Vehicle’s Oxygen Sensor

Filed under: Uncategorized — golodasa @ 11:15 am

You already know that your car’s engine is responsible for creating the energy that turns your wheels and propels your vehicle down the road. It generates this energy through its combustion process. Air and fuel enter each cylinder’s combustion chamber where the mixture is compressed and ignited. A lot of drivers fail to realize that the mixture within each cylinder’s chamber must be carefully measured. The oxygen sensor (OS) plays an important role in ensuring an optimum ratio between the air and fuel.

Below, we’ll explore this component, and the job it performs, in greater detail. You’ll learn how the OS is part of your engine’s feedback loop. I’ll also describe how it works and what can happen if it fails.

Maintaining The Perfect Ratio

The optimum ratio between the oxygen and fuel that enters your engine’s combustion chambers is 14.7 to 1. Too little air causes a rich mixture. In such cases, the combustion process results in unburned fuel that flows out of the chamber and into the exhaust system. That generates pollution and will cause your vehicle to fail an emissions test.

When there is too much air in the combustion chamber, a lean mixture results. That produces excess nitrogen oxides, a dangerous pollutant. Not only does that make your car’s catalytic converter work harder, but it can also lead to engine damage.

Maintaining the optimum ratio between the air and fuel mixture requires constant monitoring. That is the job of your oxygen sensor.

Understanding The Control Loop

The OS sits within your vehicle’s exhaust pipe and measures whether the air-fuel mixture is too lean or too rich. It accomplishes this task by identifying the amount of oxygen present in the exhaust leaving each cylinder’s combustion chamber. It sends a continuous stream of data to your car’s computer.

The computer receives the data sent from the O2 sensor and uses it to modify the ratio of air and fuel used during combustion. If the oxygen sensor notes a too-lean or too-rich mixture in the exhaust, the computer (i.e. the engine control unit, or ECU) will adjust the fuel intake system in order to compensate.

Any modifications made by your car’s ECU will produce changes in the oxygen level present in the exhaust. These changes are identified by the OS, which continues sending a stream of corresponding data to the ECU. This is a closed feedback loop.

How The Oxygen Sensor Performs Its Job

Your vehicle’s O2 sensor generates a small electrical current when the component becomes heated. This voltage is produced by a chemical reaction. The portion of the sensor that is screwed into the exhaust manifold is equipped with a small bulb. The bulb is coated with chemicals that produce a reaction when they are exposed to the gases contained in the exhaust leaving your car’s combustion chambers.

The voltage created by this chemical reaction communicates the level of oxygen to the engine control unit. A high voltage means the mixture is too rich. A low voltage means the mixture is too lean.

When The Component Fails

Oxygen sensors can last up to 80,000 miles, but can fail earlier depending on your driving habits. If it fails, your car’s computer will be unable to make changes to the ratio of the air-fuel mixture used in your engine’s combustion chambers. In effect, the closed feedback loop that normally ensures the mixture is optimized, opens. Your emissions will rise, potentially causing your vehicle to fail an emissions test. Your gas mileage will fall as your engine becomes less efficient. You might also notice a reduction in performance as the air-fuel mixture runs rich or lean.

If your car’s O2 sensor fails, have an OEM-certified replacement installed as soon as possible. Otherwise, your engine may begin experiencing problems that worsen with time.

What adapted to to exist primarily in case of storms now exists not to board up against Mother Nature, but to board up against squatters, vandals and rodents. Committee Up companies in Atlanta, Georgia have seen a sharp rise in their business over the past year. The economy remains turbulent and more and more people are in jeopardy of not only losing their jobs but they also shudder at losing their homes. This fear has become a reality in many neighborhoods in and around Atlanta.

The foreclosure rate, which used to change inner city neighborhoods and elderly neighborhoods, has begun to reach its arms to extent to even the most affluent neighborhoods in Atlanta. No one it seems could have predisposed for the economy bottoming up and even the most proactive person may be facing serious financial worries.

From Atlanta’s urban pith to leafy neighborhoods filled with singing birds, some 2.2 million homes are expected to go through foreclosure, and wagon empty. As the housing dominoes fall across the country many states are witnessing urban “ghost towns” of vacant, boarded up houses. This urban affliction welcomes raves, squatters and thieves to pilfer. The houses sit empty with weeds, trash, and dereliction on a scale unseen, up until now.

Boarded up houses have become a average sight in many neighborhoods I Atlanta and with the economy still falling it seems it will get much worse before any signs of improvement are felt.

Many banks, too strapped with foreclosures to conduct property, have taken to hiring board up companies to keep their investment safe from rodents by boarding the house up and at liberty from squatters, raves and vandalism by hiring security to watch the house. In many areas a heavy find is imposed if the brothel is allowed to fall into a state of disrepair. The house must be kept as clan and safe as possible until it is sold.

Many embark on up companies will take care of everything from re keying locks, to junk removal, paint touch up and even handle the eviction. The issue has grown from one that boarded up windows in case of a storm to one that does everything from beginning to end during the foreclosure process. Many of them offer loosely quotes and are very competitively priced. These companies can do remarkable things in bringing a house back to life and keeping it justified in secure in the interim period.

    History of Memory Foam

Filed under: Uncategorized — golodasa @ 11:50 am

Memory foam is a common term used in our lexicon today. Used as material to construct items from mattresses, pillows, toppers and much more, people hail memory foam as a new innovation with numerous implications. However, you might be surprised to know that memory foam is anything but new. Actually, the material has been around for awhile and had a surprising beginning.

Originally, memory foam was developed by NASA in 1966. As part of an attempt by NASA scientists to make aircraft cushions even safer, the concept of memory foam was born. NASA hoped that it could help reduce the impact of gravitational forces upon its astronauts at lift-off. Its predecessor was dubbed T-foam, short for Temper Foam. It had unique properties that allowed it to act like both a solid and liquid simultaneously. They sought a material that would respond to temperature as well as being able to spread over a large surface area. AS a result, pressure points could thus be reduced. Initially, T-foam was not as durable as memory foam. Over time, it was shown to crack after only a year or two. NASA wanted a material that was more durable and eventually stopped the project. Therefore, the material never did make it to outer space but NASA continued to hold patents for the unique substance.

One of the creators of T-foam, Charles Yost later created his own company, along with NASA support, to make the form available to the public for other uses. T-foam became used in padding for x-ray tables and sports equipment. As time progressed, so did the uses for the foam.

Finally, in the early 80’s NASA relinquished its domination over memory foam and allowed it to be part of public domain. More and more companies sprang up utilizing the material for various purposes. It wasn’t until the early 1990’s that memory foam became a component of mattresses. The first mattresses were attractive to hospitals who wanted to find a way to decrease patient pain. In the past, memory foam wasn’t commonplace, therefore, it was quite expense and not as widely known as today.

Find a Good Dentist to Install a Dental Bridge of High Quality

Filed under: Uncategorized — golodasa @ 6:38 am

Finding the right dentist who can install a dental bridge is quite easy, that is if you do your research properly. Online you can find several dentists offering their service at a practical price. Filling in the missing teeth with pontifics is easily than by a professional dentist. By putting on dental crowns, the false teeth are held in place. With the aid of false teeth, you can chew food properly. To make sure of the durability of your pontifics, discuss you choice with a good dentist. Depending on the necessary restoration and location, you can determine which among the type of materials you should use. Decide between gold and porcelain if you want shining false teeth to enhance the beauty of your smile.
People get a dental bridge to restore their smile, restore the ability to chew food properly, replace missing teeth, and help prevent remaining teeth from misaligning out of position. Some of the more common dental bridges are the traditional bridge, the cantilever bridge and Maryland bond bridges. A traditional dental bridge creates a crown for the teeth on either side of the missing tooth. These teeth are referred to as abutment teeth. The pontic rests in between the two abutment teeth. This is by far the most common type of dental bridge. The cantilever dental bridge is used when there are only adjacent teeth on one a side of the missing tooth. A Maryland bond dental bridge is made of resin bond which holds plastic teeth and gums. Metal wings are used on either side of this type of dental bridge to bond to the existing teeth.
The process for getting a dental bridge begins when your dentist prepares the abutment teeth. This is done in one visit, where the dentist removes part of the abutment teeth’s enamel so they can fit a crown over these teeth. After the dentist has removed the enamel and reshaped the teeth, he will then take an impression of your existing teeth. This impression is used by a dental laboratory to construct the dental bridge, pontic and crowns. At the end of this first visit, your dentist will construct a temporary dental bridge which protects exposed teeth and gums until your permanent dental bridge is constructed by the dental laboratory.
Once your permanent bridge has been constructed, you return to your dentist to be fitted for your permanent bridge. The dentist will often cement the dental bridge temporarily in place to make sure there is a proper fit. You can expect to have multiple visits to check on the fit of your dental bridge and make sure that it is in place properly and that it is not having any adverse effects on your bite or other teeth. Once the dentist is sure that there is a proper fit, the dental bridge will be permanently cemented into place, restoring your smile and giving you better functioning teeth and gums.

Reasons For Increase in Rental Properties

Filed under: Uncategorized — golodasa @ 1:27 am

If you are a practicing Realtor in the East Central Florida area, this might be the perfect time to aggressively market lease properties to your clients. The influx of Tampa office space for rent is making for some wonderful leasing opportunities. Many realtors are finding that Tampa office space availability presents them with a large inventory of properties to show to their clients. They are also finding that their list of clients interested in property leasing is ever expanding. The reason for this increase in properties for lease can be attributed to a couple of primary factors.

It wasn’t so very long ago that business owners were choosing to purchase large, extravagant buildings for their base of operation. Business owners, who certainly are used to operating on extensive lines of credit, were very comfortable taking out large mortgages, knowing that credit lines were being readily extended in a business -friendly economic climate. The over-extended company was often still considered for a mortgage option with the idea that it was promoting commerce and entrepreneurship. Owners were ready to capitalize on low interest rates and buyer-accessible mortgage terms. A system of checks and balances was not necessarily in place. In this current climate, things are vastly different. Companies who had previously operated under mountains of debt are no longer allowed to simply increase that amount with no scrutiny. In fact, an overall tightening in the banking industry has created a significantly more rigid loan approval process. Business owners are now finding it much easier to secure approval for property leases rather than property mortgages. Leases offer greater financial flexibility for the common business owner. This is very appealing to business owners and lenders in this unpredictable economic environment… >>>>>>>

More and more businesses today are opting for IT outsourcing in preference to in-house IT control. Internet outsourcing is the method by which a company or individual’s IT solutions are managed by an outside contract, at a remote, secure data centre or colocation centre.

For increased security, many data centres are located offshore, in politically neutral and financially stable countries like Switzerland or Lichtenstein. They specifically house data server computers – the mainframe-style hardware from which data server programs are run. These computers may handle just one company (a dedicated server) or several (a shared server.) The IT outsourcing companies who maintain these computers and set up the programs are always offering a shared or dedicated server hosting service.

Every company has to have a data centre of some kind. Before the arrival of remote data centres, a company would have their own in-house server network, run from a mainframe computer housed in an IT room – indeed, many still do.

Unfortunately, ageing IT rooms require upgrading, staffing and maintenance – all costly items, and all liable to fail when you need them most. That is why more and more companies, even home businesses, are outsourcing their IT strategies to independent providers and exploiting the multiple advantages that are attached to remote server hosting.

It works on so many levels – there is no need for a dedicated in-house IT room, taking up valuable space and costing a fortune in power bills. You don’t have to worry about fire or flood destroying your precious mainframe, or power shut-downs losing thousands of pounds worth of orders. You don’t have to worry about site security, either – all that kind of thing is actually taken care of quite simply.

We at Artmotion CH offer a full range of IT outsourcing solutions, including dedicated server hosting, in a state-of-the-art data centre in Switzerland.

The Silk Road – China’s Most Exotic Travel Destination

Filed under: Uncategorized — golodasa @ 3:07 pm

The Silk Road is rapidly becoming one of China’s most popular tourist destinations. Heaps of travel agents and tour companies offer tours there in 2010. So why is it so popular? But first let’s examine where the Silk Road is and how to get there?

Starting at the time of Christ, the Silk Road extends from Xian in central China to either the Middle East or Europe. In fact there are many routes, some to Moscow in the north and those into India and Pakistan in the south. Just like travellers in the time of Marco Polo – thirteenth century – the ancient trade routes still exist although the type of goods sold and the method of transport have changed. The reason why the Silk Road starts/ends in Xian is that it was the ancient capital of China and internal trade routes, in many cases along the Yangtze and Yellow Rivers, were already established to distribute goods within China.

Many tourists start their Silk Road journey in Beijing. The Imperial City, the Great Wall of China the many places of historic interest will make a 3-5 day stay worthwhile. Add to it a little shopping and time to experience northern Chinese cuisine and you are ready for your Silk Road experience.

    How to get there
Most international airlines fly into Beijing, Shanghai and Hong Kong. There is a lesser choice of flights to and from western China and most of these are based out of the capital of Xinjiang Province, Urumqi.

China has rail connections north to Mongolia, Hong Kong, Tibet and west to Moscow. For the more adventurous there are multiple rail links into Vietnam.

Coach access from/to Pakistan is available along the Karakorum Highway, apart from November though April, when it is closed. Delays and discomfort can be part of this route so be prepared. Travel in Pakistan needs serious consideration. We spent 12 wonderful days travelling there in late 2007 but with the rise of the Taliban the risk for westerners has increased dramatically.

Visas are required for all access points to China and I recommend that these be obtained well in advance.

    How to get around
Train travel is popular in China although it does have an extensive coach network. Of course you could fly but that would really defeat the main purpose of visiting China – to meet the people. Train travel is reliable, fast and cheap. “Soft” sleeping compartments either for four or on some routes for two persons are available or if you want to join the locals try the “hard” class, but unless you are on a tight budget, it’s not recommended. You will need assistance buying the rail tickets as few station staff speak English. The timetables and options can be complex. Ask a travel agency with China experience to help.

Many companies offer tours along the Silk Road. Most of these use a combination of coach and rail travel. International companies include GAP, Peregrine, World Expeditions, Travel Indo-China. You’ll find these using Google. Some tours include a tour leader and guide. Standards of accommodation and comfort are reflected in the pricing.

Another option is to hire a guide through Chinese companies like Xinjiang Silk Road Adventures in Urumqi. Local guides can be provided on a per day basis or overall for a tour, at very reasonable prices. Tour guides are required to be licensed in China.

    When to Go
China is a vast country covering eight time zones. It’s climate varies considerably. Summers can be hot and sticky and the winters extremely cold so the best months are in Spring and Autumn. Consult a good guide book for the temperatures that you can experience at the time of your planned travel so that you can dress appropriately.

    Silk Road Highlights
To get the most out of a Silk Road journey it should not be rushed. Allow a minimum of 14 days in addition to any stay in Beijing. If you are including Uzbekistan add another ten days:

    The major attractions are:

    • Xian the Terracotta Army and other historic sites

    • The Labrang Monastery in Xiahe, in the Gannan Tibetan Autonomous region

    • The Fort and Great Wall of China Museum at Jiayuguan

    • Dunhuang for riding the two humped Bactrian camels in the vast sand dunes. Nearby are the Buddhist Mogao Caves set into a desert backdrop of the Flaming mountains.

    • Urumqi has an excellent Xinjiang Regional Museum. Two hours away is the spectacular lake district of China, the Heavenly Lake. Here you’ll find Kazakh people living in yurts and grazing their herds of horses, sheep and goats. If you have the time, stay overnight and experience the food and hospitality of the locals.

    • Turpan is famous for its grapes, and nearby are the ancient cities of Gaochang and Jiaohe, the Bezeklik thousand Buddha Tombs and the underground water systems called karez that link Turpan to much needed snow melt from the distant Tian Shan mountains.

    • Kashgar, a trade route city for thousands of years. Visit the old city before it’s demolished and attend the famous Sunday animal market which although dusty is a great spectacle.

    • Those with extra time may find the southern Silk Road oasis towns of Yarkand and Khotan of interest. This area is less visited but does have some interesting side trips including camel safaris and treks into the Taklamakan desert. This predominantly Uyghur area has much of interest for those that are looking for something a little different.

    • A short train journey or flight will take you across the western Chinese border and then on to Tashkent the capital of Uzbekistan. Here the real gems of the Silk Road are to be found in the ancient cities of Samarkand, Bukhara and Khiva. Coach travel in Uzbekistan is comfortable and affordable, although the rail line west offers an alternative.

If you are looking for a vacation with a difference and you are a little adventurous, then travelling the Silk Road should be on the top of your list. It is safe and affordable. And it is a hugely rewarding experience. Yes, it will have its challenges but what a story you can tell when you get home, not to mention your fantastic digital photographs of the highlights of this scenic journey.

You could, like Marco Polo, even write a book about your experiences. I did. It’s called Following Macro Polo’s Silk Road.
